Honeybee and Amber have settled beautifully into the routine here on the farm. Both came to us with severely overgrown, curled hooves, and both needed a lot of care and patience.
Honeybee is a sweet and well-mannered 20-year-old Jenny. She’s wonderful for both the vet and the farrier and has a gentle spirit.
Her 10-year-old daughter Amber, however, arrived with no handling experience at all. She didn’t understand manners, didn’t know what humans wanted from her, and wanted nothing to do with us. But after many weeks of short, consistent sessions, she’s made tremendous progress. She’s now much easier to catch, is allowing us to pick up and clean her front feet, and has begun learning to lead.
Her curiosity is really shining through, and while she’s still unsure about our role in her world, she no longer sees people as a threat. We couldn’t be happier with how far she’s come, and we know the rest will follow in time. Small, consistent steps truly make the biggest difference.
This pair of donkeys is available for adoption to someone who has the time and experience to continue Amber’s training. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you would like to learn more about them and if you are interested in offering them a forever home. Must be adopted together.
