Heidi is available for adoption and we are looking for a very special home for this special needs mare. She is a 20 year old Haflinger and stands 13.1 hands tall. She is available as a retired companion only.
Heidi has made tremendous improvements since she was surrendered to us in February 2023. She was suffering from severe laminitis. It was also discovered that she has Cushings disease which is managed through a daily medication. She’s also on a smartpak supplement called quiescence, which helps with metabolism.
She will need to wear boots most of the time for the rest of her life for foot support and comfort. If the ground is soft, she can have a break wearing them occasionally for a day. After many months of strict diet and corrective foot trims, casts and boots, she is more comfortable and content than she’s been in a really long time. Finding Heidi a home with someone who has experience with laminitis would be a plus.
Heidi would fit best in a situation where she has 1 (or 2) mellow equine friends with a similar restricted diet, and a sizable dirt lot (absolutely no grass and no free choice hay).
Please don’t hesitate to give us a call or email us to learn more about Heidi. If you feel that your set up is compatible for Heidi’s needs and you would like to offer her a loving forever home, please fill out an adoption which can be found in the menu of our website. Adoption fee: $300
