A non-profit horse rescue in Southern Vermont
Horses have long held a special place in Manchester’s history. Today we may think of them mainly for recreation and sport, but for the town’s earliest settlers they were essential partners in daily life—working farms and fields, pulling stages, and powering mills. Their contributions were so significant that Vermont became one of the first states to pass laws against cruelty to horses and other working animals.
This illustrated talk, presented by Shawn Harrington of the Manchester Historical Society, will explore this rich history with fascinating photographs that show just how deeply horses were woven into the fabric of everyday life.
We are also proud to feature Dorset Equine Rescue Board Member Lori Berger, who will share the story of the Dorset Equine Rescue, our mission, and the meaningful work we do every day to provide a safe and loving sanctuary for neglected and abused horses.
This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with local history, honor the remarkable contributions of horses, and discover how your support helps ensure a safe future for horses in need.
We can’t wait to see you there!
